چکیده

In reporting on the theorem prover SCOTT (Slaney, SCOTT: A Semantically Guided Theorem Prover, Proc. IJCAI, 1993) we suggested semantic constraint as as an appropriate mechanism for guiding proof searches in propositional systems where the rule of inference is condensed detachment|a generalisation of Modus Ponens. Such constrained condensed detachment is closely analogous to semantic resolution. This paper exhibits an example which shows that semantically constrained condensed detachment is incomplete. That is, there are formulae deducible by means of condensed detachment which are not deducible when the semantic constraint is imposed. This answers an open question from our 1993 paper. That is, there are formulae de-ducible by means of condensed detachment which are not deducible when the semantic constraint is imposed. This answers an open question from our 1993 paper.

A Simplified Form of Condensed Detachment

This paper gives a simple, elegant statement of the condensed detachment rule that is independent of most general unifiers and proves that this is equivalent to the longer, more usual, formulation.

Spectral domain optical coherence tomography and B-scan ultrasonography in the evaluation of retinal tears in acute, incomplete posterior vitreous detachment

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to evaluate the extension and traction effects of posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) complicated with retinal tears using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) and B-scan ultrasonography. METHODS Complete ophthalmological examination, B-scan ultrasonography and spectral domain OCT were performed in patients with acute PVD and retinal tear...

D-complete Axioms for the Classical Equivalential Calculus

Virtually all previously known axiom sets for the classical equivalential calculus, EQ, are D-incomplete: not all theorems derivable by substitution and detachment can be derived using the rule D of condensed detachment alone. The only exception known to the author is Wajsberg’s base {EEpEqrErEqp, EEEpppp}. This axiom set, albeit inorganic since one of its members contains a theorem of EQ as a ...

Incomplete stent apposition causes high shear flow disturbances and delay in neointimal coverage as a function of strut to wall detachment distance: implications for the management of incomplete stent apposition.

BACKGROUND Lack of re-endothelialization and neointimal coverage on stent struts has been put forward as the main underlying mechanism leading to late stent thrombosis. Incomplete stent apposition (ISA) has been observed frequently in patients with very late stent thrombosis after drug eluting stent implantation, suggesting a role of ISA in the pathogenesis of this adverse event. The aim of thi...

Vanquishing the XCB Question: The Methodology Discovery of the Last Shortest Single Axiom for the Equivalential Calculus

With the inclusion of an effective methodology, this article answers in detail a question that, for a quarter of a century, remained open despite intense study by various researchers. Is the formula XCB = e(x, e(e(e(x, y), e(z, y)), z)) a single axiom for the classical equivalential calculus when the rules of inference consist of detachment (modus ponens) and substitution? Where the function e ...
